A Look at Hot Dogs in the Guinness World Records
Hot dogs have certainly made their mark in the Guinness World Records over the years. The records are published annually, and list incredible feats that people have achieved and amazing phenomena from the natural world.
It’s the primary international authority for cataloguing world records of all descriptions. Records are beaten every day, so there are often exciting (not to mention weird) updates!
Let's take a look at how the humble hot dog has featured in the Guinness World Records.
The most expensive Hot Dog
Considering hot dogs are generally the family-friendly, affordable option at events, parties, festivals and sporting facilities across the world, can you imagine paying over $100 for your fast food fix?
How about $169? The most expensive hot dog was sold by Tokyo Dog in Seattle USA on February 23, 2014. This luxury designer dog called the 'Juuni Ban' contained an array of exotic and expensive ingredients, including smoked cheese, bratwurst, butter Teriyaki grilled onions, Maitake mushrooms, Wagyu beef, foie gras, shaved black truffles and Japanese mayonnaise, all encased in a brioche bun.
The longest Hot Dog
Apparently, creating an extremely long hot dog is easier than it looks. This is because the humble dog is structurally sound, flexible and relatively easy to transport. The hardest factor is that the bun has to be baked in its final form rather than in sections.
The world's longest hot dog, according to the most up-to-date information on The Guinness World Record site, was made by Novex S.A in Paraguay, to commemorate Paraguay's 200th anniversary as a country. It measured 203.80 metres and the meat weighed 120kg.
In case you'd like to try your own, the recipe for the bun included 100kg of flour, 25 litres of water, 6kg of yeast, 6kg of sugar, 5kg of butter, 2kg of powdered milk, 2kg of salt and 1 litre of malt extract. And yes, it was entirely edible!
Most Hot Dogs made in one minute
If you regularly feed a hungry hoard of hot dog fanatics, this record might be useful to you! American actor Steve Guttenberg made nine hot dogs in one minute to celebrate Guinness World Records Day in 2008 on the set of the New Paul O'Grady Show in London. The record was then equalled by British cricket legend Andrew Flintoff in March 2012 at QVC Studios in London.
The largest Hot Dog Cart
The world's largest hot dog cart might just come in handy for event catering in Sydney! Measuring 2.81 metres in width, 7.06 metres in length and 3.72 metres in height, the world’s largest hot dog cart is movable and was designed by American Marcus Daily in October 2013. The sides are even embossed with diamond-patterned, quilted stainless steel.
Largest Hot Dog eating contest
Finally, if you've ever wanted to enter a hot dog eating contest, this would have been the one to compete with the best! The most participants to ever enter this record-breaking contest in Valencia, Spain was 3,189 in March 2011.
Perhaps you can arrange your own and try to break the top records for hot dog lovers around the globe!
